Who are Spokes?

Spokes Cycle Care & Repair is a small local business that has been operating from its workshop in Chelmsford, Essex for over 12 years. We don’t sell bikes, we are a dedicated bicycle service and repair workshop.

At Spokes we give the same high level of care whatever your ride. Old bikes, new bikes, faithful trusty steeds or high-end carbon machines. We don’t discriminate, whatever you ride you will always receive a warm welcome from Silke and Ian at the Spokes Workshop.

We provide a friendly and professional service using quality materials and components and our attention to detail and pride in our work is second to none.  Most of our business comes from a happy band of repeat customers and from their recommendations and referrals.

Meet the team

Jon

Jon recently took over operation after purchasing the spokes workshop in late 2024, after 20 years of fixing bikes (and business) for other companies, it was an opportunity that couldn’t be missed to fix bikes for other people???

“I am really looking forward to the challenges, meeting everyone and keeping you all on 2 wheels, I would like to thank Silke and Ian for their hard work over the last 16 years, its a big set of shoes to fill, but I am 100% up for the challenge”

Silke

Ian

Silke founded the business some 12 years ago having cut her teeth working as a senior mechanic for a national bike retailer.  In a former life, having graduated in Aeronautics she worked as an engineer in the Aerospace industry.  Her long time passion for cycling hasn’t diminished and she now gets to ride all shapes and sizes. In her down time Silke rides a Marin Hardtail and a Genesis Titanium Road Bike.

Ian’s enthusiasm for cycling began back in the 90s when he was talked into doing The London/Brighton Charity Ride with a bunch of mates.  He joined Silke at Spokes in 2013, having worked in the Engineering industry for over 40 years. He is now Silke’s wingman and her go to Ug Ug guy (Not very bright but he can lift stuff). Currently riding a Marin Hardtail and a self built Di2 Road Bike based on a Reilly steel frame.

Check out the workshop

The Spokes Workshop is located in Beehive Lane Works, a family owned and managed industrial yard with plenty of customer parking for bike drop offs and pick ups.  We have the capacity for approximately 20 bikes at any one time.

We take our work seriously and this is reflected in the quality of our workshop tools and materials.  From wheel truing, headset, bottom bracket and wheel hub bearing replacement to everyday degreasing. We  have the right tools for the right jobs.

Supporting

We are proud to be associated with a number of charity bike events over the past few years. It has been a real pleasure to help out so many people who have put in the time and effort to raise funds for so many deserving causes. Well done Ride for Helen and  Pedal for J’s.
